Brighten up your day with this special edition, sunny tote made of organic cotton in celebration of Little Sun.
Launched in 2012 by artist Olafur Eliasson and engineer Frederik Ottesen at the Tate Modern (London), Little Sun is a solar-powered global project connecting the world through sharing light. Nearly one quarter of the world’s population does not have access to electricity. When the sun sets, entire communities grind to a halt. When you purchase a Little Sun, you make it possible for Little Suns to be sold in off-grid areas through local distribution centers at prices that are locally affordable. By avoiding kerosene and other hazardous materials for light sources, Little Sun safely extends the day for thousands, allowing students to study and workers to work during the evening hours.
Icelandic artist and designer Eliasson says this of his inspiration: “As a child I grew up in Iceland where there is no sunlight in the winter. It simply stays dark all day…Light became a way of connecting to other people. Light is social. Light is life.”
