Featuring Barcelona-based, German artist Sabine Finkenauer's Sambara pattern. Utilizing simple everyday subjects and shapes, Finkenauer brings an interplay of representative and abstract expression based on repetition. Founded in 1951 by visionary Finnish textile designer Armi Raitia and her husband, Viljo, Marimekko grew from a small textile-printing firm into an international phenomenon. From its beginnings as a textile design company, Marimekko (meaning “Mary’s dress”) branched out into everything from toys to dinnerware to architecture, becoming something of a lifestyle brand in the 1960s and 70s.
